The New York Giants are dealing with some notable injury issues early in their Sunday night matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
Wide receiver Victor Cruz headed to the locker room after the team’s first possession to get X-rays taken on his foot. The results were negative and he was diagnosed with a bruised heel, according to the Giants’ press box. It’s unclear what play Cruz was injured on, though he was targeted on a deep throw from Eli Manning during the drive.
Cruz returned to the Giants’ sideline a short time later, having changed out of his uniform into street clothes.
During the same quarter, starting center David Baas suffered a left knee injury. Baas got rolled up on from behind and was seen on the sidelines being examined by trainers before heading to the locker room for X-rays. It was revealed he suffered a sprained knee.
Baas had several surgeries during the offseason. He has never clarified any specifics on the procedures.
Kevin Hardy replaced Cruz as the Giants’ slot receiver and promptly dropped a Manning pass near the Colts’ goal line. The Giants were forced to settle for a field goal.
