Broncos-Raiders: Inside The Numbers

J.D. Walton

If you are like me, you can’t wait for Monday Night. The Broncos face off with their oldest Division rival, the Raiders and Denver is looking to stay undefeated. They have beaten two significant teams in the defending champ Baltimore Ravens and the New York Giants, while the only bragging rights the Raiders have are bludgeoning the weakest team in the league, the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags are so pathetic, not even the desperate Tim Tebow will play for them.

Anyway, here are this week’s numbers on both teams.

While no guarantee of future success, a strong start to the season is a good omen.

75.4 percent of teams (86 of 114) that started 3-0 since 1990 made the playoffs. And don’t count out any of the 1-1 or 0-2 teams. Since realignment in 2002, 79 of the 132 playoff teams (58.8 percent)  began the year at either 1-1 or 0-2, including nine teams last year. Among those nine were the Super Bowl XLVII champion Baltimore Ravens.

Go Broncos!
